To know me is to know that I LOVE LOVE LOVE glassware. Certain beverages go in certain glasses and I like to follow the rules. My friends and family make fun of me but I just believe a margarita should be consumed from a margarita glass!
Today I am sharing the basics as far as glassware is concerned. Let me be clear that you don’t need all of these to get your collection started. I have everything below beside glasses for beer (I don’t drink beer or keep it in my home). I would recommend starting off with wine glasses, champagne flutes, low ball and high ball glasses.
I am currently packing up my old place but once I get settled in my new place I will share a post with my current collection.
1. Low Ball Glass
These are also known as rocks glass or old fashioned glass. These are perfect for a mixed cocktail or a neat whiskey. You can also use these for everyday drinks.
2. High Ball Glass
These glasses are perfect for really any mixed drink. They are also perfect if your drink needs ice because its a larger size. I honestly purchased these for everyday use. I have so many other glasses that I just use these for OJ, water, soda, ice tea etc.
3. Martini Glass
Martinis are a pretty popular drink! Once you are ready to expand your collection this would be my next suggestion. A martini consist of a cocktail with either gin or vodka. When you are using a martini glass there shouldn’t be any ice. So my suggestion would to make the cocktail in a shaker, so it can be chilled and then poured into the glass. Check out my Pear Martini!
4. Coupe Glass
Anything that can go in a martini glass can also go in a coupe glass. These glasses can also be used for champagne as well. This is perfect for anything that needs to be shaken or stirred and served without ice. If you are feeling fancy you can use the glass for desserts as well such as bananas pudding or ice cream!
5. Margarita Glass
Pretty self explanatory but a margarita glass is used to serve margaritas. I love love a good marg so these were one of the first pieces I added to the collection but it is not really essential. A margarita can definitely be served in a low ball glass as well. Check out my Classic Margarita Recipe!
6. Wine Glass
A red wine glass is usually shorter and rounder. Oh and it also serves red wine. A white wine glass is usually taller and has a more narrow opening. These are a must have for me.
7. Champagne Flute
Champagne flutes hold cocktails that include champagne or sparkling wines such as prosecco. Drinking champagne out of the incorrect glass is one of my biggest pet peeves. Please don’t serve me a mimosa in a regular glass or especially a wine glass. No No No!
8. Beer
I don’t drink beer so I don’t have much detail but if you do drink beer this is a great addition to your glassware collection. Makes the drink more aesthetically pleasing.
9. Shot Glass
Everyone should invest in glass shot glasses. If you’re out of college you should no longer be using bath cups from your local grocery store as a shot glass. I would say invest in at least 8 to start off with since you are usually taking shots with a group of people.
