I love adding a fresh floral arrangement to my kitchen especially after cleaning on a Saturday or Sunday. It also makes a great center piece for girls’ night in or dinner party. I wish I could afford to get fresh flowers delivered every week but that can get expensive very quickly. So, I decided to just get some budget friendly flowers from my local grocery store and make them into an arrangement myself. It’s super easy and fun to create and not to mention you can do it for around $15 – $25.
I would suggest getting at least 3 different flowers and 1 sort of greenery or filler. I find that is more than enough to make the arrangement look full. I ended up having a little bit of flowers left over on this one. The hardest part for me is not taking forever picking out what flowers I want while I’m at the grocery store. I try to look for colors that are either monochromatic or analogous. For this arrangement I picked up some hydrangeas, euro pompoms, wax flowers and eucalyptus from Kroger.
Let me be very clear that the vessel is a very important piece of the puzzle and a game changer. I’m sure we all have a basic old clear vase from a floral arrangement someone sent us from an online company for a special occasion. But investing in a unique and beautifully designed vase is a simple way to turn any floral arrangement up a notch. You can pick up something from your local HomeGoods or Marshalls. I would suggest something that is textured, aged, an antique jug or even a mason jar.
The fun part is putting everything together.
First thing is to make sure you remember to put water in your vase at the start. (I have definitely made a gorgeous arrangement and had to take the flowers out at the end because I forgot to add water.) Next you need to cut your stems. There shouldn’t be a bunch of stems that are visibly sticking out of the vase. So, this may take some trial and error to get them cut to the right height. You can either cut as you go or cut them all at once. I prefer to cut them all at once and then start arranging them but it’s purely just your preference.
This is your arrangement, so you have full creativity. I grouped my flowers together, so I bunched two of euro pompoms together and two of the wax flowers together (I kept doing this until I achieved the fullness that I wanted) and placed them around the hydrangeas. I added the eucalyptus at the end to fill in any empty spots. If you need more structure you can try to make a shape with the flowers so a square, diamond, triangle, etc. It took me 3 attempts to achieve this look. So please don’t worry if your first arrangement is not what you imagined in your head.
I absolutely love the final product. This was such an easy and gorgeous floral arrangement. Best part is that it only cost me $23 and I was able to get all the flowers at my local grocery store. Hopefully you learned a few tips to make your own DIY arrangement.
